Article II, Sec. 4 of of SWCHR's Articles of Association provides that one of the Association's purposes and objectives is to provide the best possible science concerning herpetological issues to regulatory and legislative bodies at the local, state and federal levels of government. In order to meet the responsibilites placed on the Association by Article II, Sec. 4 of SWCHR's Articles of Association, we offer testimony before legislative bodies, wildlife, conservation, environmental and other regulatory agencies on important herpetological issues relevant to the American Southwest. We also prepare position papers explaining the Association's position on these important issues and our reasoning for taking such positions.
All such position papers are approved and adopted by SWCHR's Board of Directors. We have now added a new section to the main SWCHR web site where all approved and adopted SWCHR position papers will be archived as downloadable Word documents that are accessible to both our membership and the general public.
The first two position papers completed and released are Position Paper Regarding the Practice of Gassing Snake Dens as a Permissible Means of Take in Texas and Position Paper Regarding the Practice of Searching for Reptiles and Amphibians on Public Roadways in Texas for the Purpose of Observation, Photography, and/or Collection. You will be able to access these two important papers and others that are later developed by clicking here or by clicking on SWCHR Position Papers located on the main navigation bar located at the bottom of each page of the web site.
