Distribution: The Texas Diamond-backed Terrapin occurs in the bays, salt marshes and other coastal waterways along the Texas Gulf Coast southward from the Texas-Louisiana border to Nueces and Kleberg Counties.
Legal Status: Malaclemys terrapin littoralis is not listed as either a Threatened or Endangered Species by the State of Texas. However, it is protected from take and possession under Section 57.927(g)(10) of Title 31 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC).
