DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Nerodia harteri occurs only in the upper Brazos River drainage region of central Texas.
LEGAL STATUS: Nerodia harteri is listed as a Threatened species by the State of Texas.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Nerodia harteri (Trapido – 1941)
Genus: Nerodia, Greek – honors Nereis, a Greek sea nymph
Species: harteri, honors Phillip Harter
