DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Trimorphodon lambda occurs throughout Arizona south of the Mogollon Rim ranges, in the northeastern desert region of Arizona, extreme southern Nevada and eastern California.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Trimorphodon lambda (Cope – 1886)
Genus: Trimorphodon, Greek – tri = three + morph = shape + odon = tooth
Species: lambda, Greek = a letter in Greek alphabet – ref. chevron shape marking on head (which also resembles the harp-like Greek lyre which is where the snake got its common name)
