MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Elgaria multicarinata scincicauda (Skilton – 1849)
Genus: Elgaria, Obscure – possibly named after the Old English name “Elgar” meaning “elf spear” or “elf warrior” – pos. ref. to spear-shaped head of the genus
Species: multicarinata, Latin – multi = many + carinata = keeled
Subspecies: scincicauda, Latin – sinci = lizard + cauda = tail – ref. long tail
