DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Anniella pulchra occurs in the coastal counties of California south of the San Francisco Bay area and into the Tehachapi mountains to the east.
LEGAL STATUS: Anniella pulchra is protected as a California Species of Special Concern.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Anniella pulchra (Gray – 1852)
Genus: Anniella, Latin – annela = ringed + ella = little
Species: pulchra, Latin = beautiful
