DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Coleonyx reticulatus occurs only in Brewster and Presidio Counties in the Big Bend region of Texas.
LEGAL STATUS: Coleonyx reticulatus is protected in Texas as a Threatened Species.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Coleonyx reticulatus (Davis & Dixon 1958)
Genus: Coleonyx, Greek – koleos = sheath + onyx = talon or claw – ref. sheathed claws
Species: reticulatus, Latin = netted – ref. dorsal color pattern similar to a net
