DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Sceloporus g. gracilis occurs in California west of the Great Basin Desert throughout the Sierra Nevada and Tehachapi mountains, and in the inner Coast Ranges and Diablo Range to the Oregon border.

Genus: Sceloporus, Greek – skelos = leg + porus = pore or opening – ref. femoral pores on hind legs
Species: graciosus, Latin = graceful – “This small and graceful species…”
Subspecies: gracilis, Latin = slender
