DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Sceloporus virgatus occurs only in the Animas, Chiricahua and Peloncillo Mountains in extreme southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico.

Genus: Sceloporus, Greek – skelos = leg + porus = pore or opening – ref. femoral pores on hind legs
