DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Craugastor augusti latrans occurs throughout the Balcones Escarpment of the Texas Hill Country with scattered isolated populations further west into the Trans-Pecos region.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Craugastor augusti latrans (Cope – 1880)
Genus: Craugastor, Greek – krauros = hard, brittle + gaster = belly or stomach
Species: augusti, honors Auguste Dumeril
Subspecies: latrans: Latin = a barker – ref. to the the call of the breeding males
