DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Eleutherodactylus coqui occurs in isolated populations in southern California.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Eleutherodactylus coqui (Thomas – 1966)
Genus: Eleutherodactylus, Greek – eleutheros = free, unbound + dactylos = finger, toe — ref. no toe webbing
Species: coqui, named for the loud “co”-“qui” sound of the call of the male
