DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Lithobates yavapaiensis occurs in central to southeastern Arizona and in southwestern New Mexico
LEGAL STATUS: Lithobates yavapaiensis is protected throughout its range in Arizona and New Mexico.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Lithobates yavapaiensis (Platz and Frost, 1984)
Genus: Lithobates, Greek – lithos = stone + bates = one that treads or climbs – ref. one that treads on rock or climbs rocks
Species: yavapaiensis, belonging to the Yavapai Native American group — prob. ref. type locality
