LEGAL STATUS: All species of Batrachoseps are protected with the exception of Batrachoseps attenuatus and Batrachoseps major major.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Batrachoseps regius (Jockusch, Wake and Yanev, 1998)
Genus: Batrachoseps, Greek – batrachos = amphibian, frog + seps = a kind of lizard — describes lizard-like appearance
Species: regius, Latin = of the king — ref. King’s River, California locality
