LEGAL STATUS: All species of Batrachoseps are protected with the exception of Batrachoseps attenuatus and Batrachoseps major major.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Batrachoseps relictus (Brame and Murray, 1968)
Genus: Batrachoseps, Greek – batrachos = amphibian, frog + seps = a kind of lizard — describes lizard-like appearance
Species: relictus, Latin = to leave behind — ref. relict distribution
