DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Eurycea robusta occurs only in Hays County, Texas.
NOTE: This species is known only from one specimen collected in 1951. A photo of the preserved specimen and more information on the species can be found on the AmphbiaWeb website.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Eurycea robusta (Longley, 1978)
Genus: Eurycea, probably honors Eurydice — although Rafinesque only wrote “Mythological” (Greek) – Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus.
Species: robusta, Latin = strong, tough bodied — ref. robustness of species compared to E. rathbuni
