DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Eurycea tonkawae occurs in Texas only in Williamson and Travis Counties
LEGAL STATUS: Eurycea tonkawae is listed by the State of Texas as a Threatened Species.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Eurycea tonkawae (Chippindale, Price and Hillis, 2000)
Genus: Eurycea, probably honors Eurydice — although Rafinesque only wrote “Mythological” (Greek) – Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus.
