DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Plethodon neomexicanus occurs only in the Jemez Mountains of Los Alamos and Sandoval counties, New Mexico.
LEGAL STATUS: Plethodon neomexicanus is listed by the State of New Mexico as an Endangered Species.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Plethodon neomexicanus (Stebbins and Riemer, 1950)
Genus: Plethodon, Greek – plethore =fullness or full of + odon = teeth — ref. to the number of vomerine and paravomerine teeth
Species: neomexicanus, belonging to the state of New Mexico — holotype found in Jemez Mountains, NM, l950
