DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Aspidoscelis g. gularis occurs throughout central and southern Texas.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Aspidoscelis gularis gularis (Baird & Girard – 1852)
Genus: Aspidoscelis, Greek – aspido = shield + scelis (skelos) = leg – pos. ref. large shield-like scales on legs
Species/Subspecies: gularis , Latin – gularis = of the throat — “most striking character…large and conspicuous scales on the margin of the subgutteral fold of the skin.”
