MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Aspidoscelis inornata llanuras (Wright & Lowe – 1993)
Genus: Aspidoscelis, Greek – aspido = shield + scelis (skelos) = leg – pos. ref. large shield-like scales on legs
Species: inornata, Latin – inornatus = without ornament — ref. lack of spots between stripes
Subspecies: llanuras, presumed derived from Spanish “llano” meaning plain or flat land
