DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Aspidoscelis neomexicana occurs in Central and southern New Mexico and West Texas. It is also found in several isolated populations in northwestern New Mexico, northwestern Arizona and northern Utah.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Aspidoscelis laredoensis (Lowe and Zweifel – 1952)
Genus: Aspidoscelis, Greek – aspido = shield + scelis (skelos) = leg – pos. ref. large shield-like scales on legs
Species: neomexicana, Latin – belonging to the state of New Mexico
