DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Aspidoscelis t. septentrionalis occurs in northern Arizona, southern and eastern Utah and northwestern New Mexico.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Aspidoscelis tigris septentrionalis (Burger – 1950)
Genus: Aspidoscelis, Greek – aspido = shield + scelis (skelos) = leg – pos. ref. large shield-like scales on legs
Species: tigris, Latin = of a tiger – ref. dorsum pattern
Subspecies: septentrionalis, Latin = northern — ref. geographic distribution
