LEGAL STATUS: All species of Batrachoseps are protected with the exception of Batrachoseps attenuatus and Batrachoseps major major.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Batrachoseps major major (Camp, 1915)
Genus: Batrachoseps, Greek – batrachos = amphibian, frog + seps = a kind of lizard — describes lizard-like appearance
Species/Subspecies: major, Latin = larger or greater — largest Batrachoseps
