DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Bogertophis s. subocularis occurs only in the Trans-Pecos and Big Bend regions of Texas westward into south central New Mexico.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Bogertophis subocularis (Brown – 1901)
Genus: Bogertophis,  honors Charles M. Bogert + Latin – ophis = snake, serpent
Species: subocularis, Latin – sub = below, under + oculus = the eye (ref. to lorilabial scales below the eyes)
