DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Coluber c. anthicus occurs only in the longleaf pine and mixed pine-hardwood forests of East Texas. Along the western edge of its range, it intergrades with the Eastern Yellow-bellied Racer (Coluber constrictor flaviventris).

Species: constrictor, Latin = one that constricts – misnomer, this genus does not constrict
