DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Crotalus o. oreganus occurs in coastal California from Santa Barbara County northward to the Oregon border, and eastward to the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Crotalus oreganus oreganus (Holbrook – 1840)
Genus: Crotalus, Greek – krotalon = a rattle ref. rattle on tail
