DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Diadophis p. arnyi occurs in north central Texas, the Texas Panhandle and in eastern New Mexico.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Diadophis punctatus arnyi (Kennicot – 1859)
Genus: Diadophis, Latin – diadoma = crown + Greek – ophis = snake, serpent
Species: punctatus, Latin – punctat = dotted, spotted as with punctures – ref. to spotted belly of the species
Subspecies: arnyi, honors Samuel Arny
