Genus: Holbrookia, honors John Edward Holbrook
Species/Subspecies: lacerta, Latin = torn or mangled – pres. ref. conspicuous serrations on rear edges of dorsal blotches
Subspecies: subcaudalis, Latin – sub = below + cauda = tail – ref. distinctive subcaudal dark spots on the lower surface of the tail
