DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Lampropeltis t. taylori occurs from southwestern to northern Utah, easterly into west-central Colorado and possibly in extreme northwestern Arizona.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Lampropeltis triangulum taylori (Tanner & Loomis – 1957)
Genus: LampropeltisGreek – lampros shining, beautiful + pelta = small shield – ref. smooth shiny dorsal scales typical of the genus
Species: triangulum, Latin– tri= three + angulum = angle or corner – ref. angle feature of pattern on head of type specimen
Subspecies: taylori, honors Edward H. Taylor

TAXONOMIC NOTE: In recent years, L. t. taylori has been recognized to be synonymous with L. t. celaenops.
