Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species: dissectus, Latin – dis = twice + sectus = cleft – pos. ref. to divided supralabial
