DISTRIBUTION: In our region Leptotyphlops d. rubellum is found in Atascosa, Bexar, Frio and Nueces Counties Texas.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leptotyphlops dulcis rubellum (Garman – 1884)
Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species: dulcis, Latin = sweet
Subspecies: rubellum, Latin – rubellus = reddish in color
