DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Leptotyphlops h. cahuilae occurs in southeastern California and southwestern Arizona.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leptotyphlops humilis cahuilae (Klauber – 1931)
Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species: humilis, Latin = small or ground dwelling
Subspecies: cahuilae, ref. near the type locality of Lake Cahuilae, CA
