DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Leptotyphlops h. humilis occurs throughout much of southern California, southern Nevada and western Arizona.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leptotyphlops humilis humilis (Baird & Girard 1853)
Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species/Subspecies: humilis, Latin = small or ground dwelling
