DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Leptotyphlops h. segregus occurs in southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico and the Trans-Pecos and Big Bend regions of Texas.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leptotyphlops humilis segregus (Klauber – 1939)
Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species: humilis, Latin = small or ground dwelling
Subspecies: segregus, Latin = seperate, removed from another – ref. isolated geographical distribution
