DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Leptotyphlops h.utahensis occurs extreme southeastern Utah and southern Nevada.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leptotyphlops humilis segregus (Tanner 1938)
Genus: Leptotyphlops, Greek – leptos = slender or thin + typhlos + blind + ops = eye – ref. small size, slender aspect and lack of functional eyes
Species: humilis, Latin = small or ground dwelling
Subspecies: utahensis, belonging to the state of Utah
