DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Masticophis fuliginosus is found only in California, west of the Peninsular Mountain Range in extreme southern San Diego County.  Its natural range extends southward throughout Baja California to Cabo San Lucas, MX.

LEGAL STATUS: Masticophis fuliginosus is protected as a California Species of Special Concern.
