DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Nerodia cyclopion occurs in southeastern Texas. There is also a small population in northeast Texas adjucant to the Louisiana border.

Genus: Nerodia, Greek – honors Nereis, a Greek sea nymph
Species: cyclopion, Greek – kyklopion = Cyclops, a small one-eyed giant
