DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Plestiodon fasciatus occurs in eastern Texas.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Plestiodon fasciatus (Linnaeus – 1758)
Genus: PlestiodonGreek – plestios = many + odon = tooth or teeth
Species: fasciatus,  Latin =  banded, bearing stripes — ref. dorsal stripes, females and young males “resemble bundled staves”
