DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Plethodon elongatus occurs in extreme northwestern California in Humboldt, Siskiyou and Trinity Counties.
LEGAL STATUS: Plethodon elongatus is protected in California.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Plethodon elongatus (Van Denburgh, 1916)
Genus: Plethodon, Greek – plethore =fullness or full of + odon = teeth — ref. to the number of vomerine and paravomerine teeth
Species: elongatus, Latin = slender, attenuated — most slender western Plethodon
