DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Salvadora h. deserticola occurs along the Rio Grande River in the Big Bend region of Texas, and in southwestern New Mexico and southeastern Arizona.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Salvadora hexalepis deserticola (Schmidt – 1940)
Genus: Salvadora, Latin – salvus= whole, sound, well preserved + dura = hide, skin
Species: hexalepis, Greek – hex = six + lepisma = scale – ref. 6th supralabial reaching the eye in the holotype
Subspecies: deserticola, Latin – desert = a dry place + icola = an inhabitant of
