DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Salvadora h. hexalepis occurs across the southern half of Arizona south of the Mogollon Rim ranges, and in southeastern California.

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Salvadora hexalepis hexalepis (Cope – 1866)
Genus: Salvadora, Latin – salvus= whole, sound, well preserved + dura = hide, skin
Species/Subspecies: hexalepis, Greek – hex = six + lepisma = scale – ref. 6th supralabial reaching the eye in the holotype
