DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Sceloporus m. cephaloflavis occurs in northern Arizona, southeastern Utah and extreme northwestern New Mexico

MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Sceloporus magister magister (Hallowell – 1854)
Genus: Sceloporus, Greek – skelos = leg + porus = pore or opening – ref. femoral pores on hind legs
Species: magister, Latin = teacher or master
Subspecies: cephaloflavis, Latin – cephalus = head + flavus = yellow — ref. yellow dorsal head plates and nape in adults
