DISTRIBUTION: In our region, Tantilla cucullata occurs only in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas from Val Verde County west to Presidio and Jeff Davis Counties.
LEGAL STATUS: Tantilla cucullata is protected in the state of Texas as a Threatened Species.
MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Tantilla cacullata (Minton – 1956)
Genus: Tantilla, Latin – tantillum = so small a thing
Species: cacullata, Latin = hooded
