MEANING OF SCIENTIFIC NAME: Thamnophis ordinoides (Baird & Girard – 1852)
Genus: Thamnophis, Greek – thamnos = shrub or bush + ophis = snake, serpent
Species: ordinoides, Latin = similar to T. ordinatus — Baird and Girard compared this to a species now called T. sirtalis
